Information on the island of Rhodes

Rhodes is the largest and most developed of the islands we are offering and we have chosen to include it in our programme because of the extensive variety it offers the visitor! It is well documented in the history books and this vast history is captured so spectacularly in its medieval 'old town' that is the heart of the islands capital, it has a beautiful rugged and mountainous interior and a wonderful and varied coastline that offers a wide choices of beaches that include long sandy well-organised beaches and empty, tranquil pebble beaches as well as beautiful little hidden coves where the water is a wonderfully inviting transparent turquoiose!  A further plus that comes from the islands location is its closeness to both Symi and Turkey, both of which can be visited during a day trip by boat from islands capital.

Rhodes in more detail

Dating back to the 5th century BC Rhodes has been ruled by a series of civilizations that have left
an indelible mark. The Medieval old town of Rhodes, built by the Knights of St John in the 14th and 15th centuries, is one of the finest and most atmospheric walled cities in the world and a visit there quickly makes you understand why it was nominated and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Outside of this spectacular city the island is dotted with small villages and pretty beach resorts between agricultural land where citrus fruits, grapes, vegetables and olives grow. The interior of the island is mountainous, sparsely inhabited and covered with forests of pine and cypress offering some wonderful untouched scenery and some timeless traditional villages. Petaloudes, better known as Butterfly Valley, is just one of these natural places, a beautifully scenic valley with a stream criss-crossed by wooden bridges that teems with breeding Jersey tiger moths from June to September. The villages of Koskinou and Embonas, which sits at 850m and is the highest village on Rhodes, remain untouched by tourism holding on to tradition and culture evident throughout in their traditional architecture, enticing tavernas and warm friendly people.
One of the loveliest villages on the island has to be Lindos situated on the east coast. This picturesque village, built amphitheatrically on the side of small hill and dominated by the magnificent and imposing Lindos Acropolis, is ‘postcard’ Greece, full of narrow streets, (it is completely car free), whitewashed houses, pretty courtyards and an excellent choice of atmospheric tavernas, cafes, bars and little shops. It also has two stunning bays either side of the village and is an ideal location for exploring the less developed south of the island.
We have carefully selected just a handful of properties on Rhodes to give our guests the opportunity to explore the island or perhaps combine a visit here with the stunning island of Symi. Our properties include the luxurious Angelika Suites and Apartments, situated next to Rhodes old
town, studios and apartments in coastal Afandou, a simple and quiet place situated close to a long
and beautiful sand/shingle beach, and, of course, we couldn’t resist accommodation close to the very picturesque Lindos.
