Information on The Island of Alonissos
The Sporades Islands lie just south of the Halkidiki peninsula in the north-west Aegean sea and consist of 11 islands only four of which are inhabited; Skiathos, Skopelos, Skyros and Alonissos, They are lush, pine-forested and hilly islands with steep cliffs sheltering numerous small beaches where the water is almost as green as the islands themselves. They are considered to be some of the most beautiful islands in Greece and we would agree after our visits there. For our new programme we have chosen to feature just Alonissos and Skopelos in our first year as we feel that, apart from their natural beauty, they also offer two other vital ingredients for your stay, the rich warm Greek hospitality and the authentic ambience of the 'real Greece'.

Alonissos in more detail
Alonissos is the smallest and least developed of these wonderful islands offering a pristine natural beauty amongst its green pine forested hills and wonderful coast line, that you grasp almost immediately as you approach and arrive at its unpretentious harbour town, (we use that term loosely!), the capital Patatiri, that ushers in the daily arrival and departures of the boats (the only way to reach Alonissos) but otherwise remains a sleepy little seaside town. The island also offers an authentic and original character that can be found amongst its original capital, 'Old Alonissos', situated 4kms from Patatiri, a charming traditional village with white washed houses and narrow paved streets that sits on top of the island, and in its tiny waterside sleepy hamlets that consist of little more than a few houses, apartments and a handful of waterside tavernas.
You can explore its natural beauty on foot following mule tracks that cross the wonderful wooded hillsides taking in the marvellous views along the way of secluded coves, stunning seascapes and neighbouring islands. Or spend your days discovering the islands numerous beaches, which can be accessed by local bus, car, on foot (depending on where you are staying), or by one of the little excursion boats that leave the harbour every morning in high season to various beaches, all of which consist of crystal clear bays, sand or shingle, backed by the lush green of the sweet smelling pine forests. The waters of the island are considered to be the cleanest in the Aegean and have been declared a Marine Park and conservation area in order to protect a rare species of monk seal, the Monachus Monachus that breed in the region.
If you want to explore the region further jump on one of the daily boats to Skopelos or Skiathos and spend the day discovering their own individual natural beauty and character.
We highly recommend Alonissos for those who want to experience an outstanding natural beauty, a quiet tranquillity, utmost relaxation and a timeless and authentic Greece!
Our accommodation here consists of a handful of simple properties dotted around the island offering a choice of picturesque locations.
