The Island of Symi
The island of Symi has to have one of the most picturesque arrival points in the whole of the Greek Archipelago! It's wonderful port town and capital, Gialos, the only town of any size on the island, is spectacularly beautiful with steep hills rising on either side of the harbour inlet tiered with colourful pastel-shaded neo-classical style houses with peaked red tiled roofs, a reminder of the past and a positive sign of its character today. Away from this wonderful harbour the island is rocky and hilly with fragrant forests of pine and cypress and dotted with pretty bays where the water is invitingly crystal clear.
